Both companies are trying to make the world a more efficient, transparent, and safe place for people and the planet.
Uber is working with a number of companies on the Bimanbus project, which aims to make the transportation of people colaborate and the environment a single source of truth. Each Bimanbus will have a driver and seven sensors that monitor the vehicle’s environment. The driver will be able to see and hear everything that is happening in the vehicle, including what sensors are available, what obstacles are in the way, and what the driver’s role is. The driver will also be able to see and hear what the passengers are doing, how long they’re in the car, and what other vehicles are in the car. This project is in its early stages, but with the potential to become a very useful way to manage huge volumes of traffic on busy thoroughfares and city streets.

The Skid Bus has sensors that let the driver know if another vehicle is in the roadway, what obstacles are in the way, and when those obstacles will be cleared.
Schur Hightower, a Hightower Holding Company, is also working on self-driving cars. The company has developed a range of sensors that let the driver see the weather, road conditions, traffic conditions, the movement of other humans and the vehicle’s own movements. By using these sensors, the driver is able to optimize the design and construction of the vehicle to avoid collisions against other vehicles, human or environmental alike. It’s also possible that the driver will be able to see the driver’s movement and anticipate what the driver wants him or her to do.
Mello Yello, a U.K. startup that makes high-quality smartphones, has also been working on autonomy for some time. In fact, the company’s first self-driving car, a mid-2013 Giulia Wagon, was fully automated. Using its technology, Mello Yello has been able to navigate through traffic and navigate hills and mountains, all while managing the driver and rider’s weight. The company’s early efforts have focused on making the driver’s seat comfortable, but the company is now planning to switch to a more driver-friendly interface in the future. A company called Dara Khasan started manufacturing cabs in China in 2014, and it soon became the global leader in automated cabbin service. The company’s first autonomous cab was released in 2017, and it has since sold more than 100,000 cabs. The company offers more than 30 different models, and it has partnerships with more than 30 different brands. By swapping out the driver for an autonomous cabbin, Dara Khasan can manage a huge volume of traffic. By having the cabbin manage the speed, route, and distance of autonomous cab, the company can optimize its operation and save money.
Dara Khasan Buses, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dara Khosrowshahi, is also working on fully autonomous, driverless cabs. The company was founded in 2011 and has made significant strides in driverless car technology. By partnering with tech start-ups and acquiring their expertise, the company is able to create fully automated cabs that can do everything from mapping intently a route to managing between-cab traffic. Currently, Dara Khasan Buses is working with five different companies and is trying to achieve profitability in the next year or so.
